Egenix has entered into an exclusive licensing and collaboration agreement with Harvard University (Harvard Medical School Laboratory for Translational Research) for development of small molecule inhibitors of the translation initiation factors eukaryotic initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) and eukaryotic initiation factor 2α (eIF2α).
Egenix has also licensed translation initiation specific biomarkers for assessment of tumor sensitivity to these drugs. The assay for these biomarkers will allow testing to determine patients most likely to respond to the drug and select patients to streamline clinical trials and treatment benefit.
A robust pipeline of drug candidates has been generated with high throughput discovery technology, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) structure based design, and site-specific screening and secondary assays. These capabilities will generate a series of small molecule drugs that target eIF4E and/or eIF2α with potent broad spectrum anti-cancer activity.
